Words On Wheels

Daryl relays some humour from the fast-paced walls of the nursing home, while Karyn's poem sends a more confronting message to those who are unable to look beyond her chair...

Vietnamese Vignettes

Simon writes:
"I donft know exactly why these photos remind me so much of Vietnam, because the tranquility of the different scenes is in direct opposition to the hustle and bustle of daily life around the country. Perhaps it has something to do with the bicycles, which seem to belong to another era, when life was less complex. Then again, life is probably not that complex, it might just be me."
Check out his contemplative snapshots of life in Vietnam here.

Refugees In Front

A inspirational design-related web site, Australian INfront, is what I envisage opinios could one day become if 1) I narrowed the focus, 2) I knew how to use Flash and Photoshop a bit better, and 3) I had a better eye for design. In the meantime, check out their latest visual response project, entitled Refugee.

Here is my favourite. Certainly not subtle.

Conflict In Australia's Red Centre

I dug up this opinion piece that I wrote for crikey.com.au a while back, just after getting back from a holiday in Alice Springs and the surrounds. I still struggle to get my head around the issues surrounding central Australia - I often feel really passionate about it; and then sometimes it all just gets too hard and it is easier to "ignore it and it will go away".

Well, not likely.

Create, Publish, Search, Discuss!

Yaay! After much nagging and subtle hints from a number of people (you know who you are), I have finally redesigned and updated the site (35 degrees surpassing opinios in traffic had nothing to do with it at all, really!)

I have brought over most of the old material (see the archive), but there is a whole bunch of new stuff as well, and plenty more to come. I think you'll agree the new format looks a lot better and is much easier to navigate (no more pretentious latin-derivative category titles or temperamental navigation buttons!) It is certainly much easier for me to maintain so hopefully this means updates will be much more frequent. Let me know what you think. Many thanks to Matt King for answering all my blosxom questions.

I have added search functionality, and also set up a discussion board, so that everyone and anyone can talk about the site or any of the postings, ask questions or comment on stuff related to being creative or expressing yourself (or anything else that comes to mind!) Feel free to drop by and speak your mind.

Enjoy and keep on creating!

The Shape Of Things To Come...

Joel Rembach's ambitious independent film project The Shape Of Things To Come is encountering a few hurdles along its path to realization. A crew of talented people have been assembled, however the first shoot has been delayed due to work commitments.

On top of that, having your house broken into and all your equipment stolen certainly does not help matters (we hope the insurance cheque comes through for you soon Joel!) I have read the script and it is a powerful, dramatic and topical screenplay - Joel has agreed to keep us updated via opinios on how the project is developing, so stay tuned for more news.

Deb's Dragon

Deb writes:
I love to draw but, as you said, sometimes that creative flair is suppressed when working in such a dull industry, and I'm afraid I haven't drawn for years. This one was done in 1998.
We think you should break out the pencils again Deb. We wanna see more! Check it out here.
